266 - Still walking

I kind of fell out of blogging for a while. But now starting up again.

I didn't do my walk this morning due to allergies, but otherwise I am doing well. I am walking about 3.5 miles on an average day (trying to do at least 3-4/week) and trying to drink water not soda.

Back on the wagon - 272

So this morning I was 272Lbs, which is to say that I am 9lbs up from where I was a month ago. I think the fact that the Jewish holidays happened hit me hard, I also stopped tracking and working on it. So now that life is returning to normal I am back to trying to loose weight.

This morning I took a walk of 3.13 Miles/ 56 Minutes, along the Tel Aviv Beach. I am going to try to do this every day along with good eating

Fun with Lentils

The lentil has become one of my favorite foods, today I did something rather nice with them

Red lentils with Spinich
1/2 a small onion diced,
1/2 cup red lentils
Splash Garlic Oil
Chunk of Frozen Spinich
Seeded Mustard, Pesto and Sun dried Tomatos
3/4 cup water
Some rice mix

Microwave the oil (COVERED!) for 20s
add the onion microwave for about 2:00

Add everything else, stir well.
Microwave for about 6:00 uncovered

Stir well, cover for 3-4 more minutes

I like to microwave everything on a paper towel to catch any mess that may happen

Tuna Steak with Stringbeans

So instead of Talapia I tried a Tuna steak. I marinated it with Teriaki sauce and Wasabi before cooking it. I put it in the microwave with string beans for about 4:30, which I think was about :45 to long.

Next time I will try it at 3:30 and make sure the beans are around the fish and not ontop. I also had some brown rice with it.

Weight is creeping slightly down after holding for a few days at 274. I think the issue was that I had gone back to drinking Diet Coke at work instead of water. So yesterday I went back to water.

In addition I took a 40min or so walk along the beach before work today, so we will see if that helps. I would like to be at 269 by Friday.

Ate way too much over shabbat, weight stayed about the same. Will go back to really healthy eating today and see how the week goes.

Fish with Sun Dried tomatoes and olive paste

One of the problems I have is that I live in Israel and my Hebrew is not very good. So I sometimes end up buying the wrong thing, when I don't bother to parse out a label. I had intended to get Pesto but ended up with Olive Paste from the store. Well olives have a lot of flavor and I like them, so I mixed it with Sun Dried Tomatoes and spread it over the fish. (Same fish as last time) and let it sit for about an hour in the fridge.

2:30 in the microwave, it came out great.

Rules for lunch

OK so my lunch sets the tone of my eating, so I think I need to come up with some rules

Lunch must be:


  • Hot
  • Good (no time for bad food)
  • Not fried or oily
  • Filling 
  • balanced

Not sure how, but was down to 274 this morning

Steamed Broccoli

Turns out that frozen Broccoli steams very well, with a bit of water and 4 minutes on high, it comes out bright green and not at all mushy. I added a spash of soy sauce as well.

Not sure how but this morning I was down from 284 -> 279, I don't think this is real, just normal variation.

Microwave Talapia


I have been buying a frozen Talapia at the local supermarket near my office. These tend to run about 6-7NIS per piece and 1 piece is about right for lunch for me. 
I tend to marinade it for about 5 minutes before cooking with Soy Sauce and some garlic oil (not much) and then microwave for 2-3 minutes.  I may try to add some Wasaabi powder as well. I tend to eat with rice, but will probably swap that out for steamed veggies in the next few days, or at least go with brown rice

282.4


I have had trouble with my weight all my life, but now that I am 40 it is time to do something about it. Today I stepped on a scale and it read 282.4lbs. This did not really shock me but its still hard to see it as a definite number.
The thing is that I suck at diets (almost everyone does) so I need to change how I eat and how I live. I am going to make a few changes at a time and see how they go. 
Actually I have already started. In the last few weeks at work I have started to change how I eat lunches. Instead of going out for a falafel or something else I am now eating in more often. Specifically I am making fish with rice a lot for lunches. 

My next set of changes will be to drinks (less soda, more water and tea) and breakfasts.
